Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly recognized as the driving force behind the future global digital economy. Over the past few years, AI has gained significant geo-strategic importance, and many countries are vigorously pursuing policies to position themselves at the forefront of this technological advancement.
To take initial steps in this direction, CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) introduced Artificial Intelligence as an optional subject for Class IX starting from the 2019-2020 academic session. In order to promote a multidisciplinary approach to teaching and learning and to sensitize the new generation to AI, it was decided that schools may incorporate the AI “Inspire module,” consisting of 12 hours of instruction, even in Class VIII and Class VII.
Coding is a creative activity that students from any discipline can engage in. It plays a vital role in developing computational thinking, enhancing problem-solving skills, improving critical thinking, and exposing students to real-life situations to address problems across various domains.
The primary goal is to simplify the coding learning experience by nurturing design thinking and logical flow of ideas, making it applicable across different subjects. The strong foundations laid in the early years will enable students to develop competencies in areas such as AI, data sciences, and other disciplines.
As a result, CBSE has introduced a ‘Coding’ skill module, consisting of 12 hours of instruction, for students in classes VI-VIII starting from the 2021-2022 academic session.
At DPSM, the block coding program has been successfully introduced to grade 6 students, enriching their technological learning process. These young programmers are eagerly embracing new concepts with great interest and enthusiasm.
