Here, we cater to children of all abilities. Our team of teachers, special educators, and counsellors assist the children to enhance creativity and confidence, build on their strengths, and work on their weaknesses.DPS Mysore is a safe avenue to help children realise their potential and grow. We empower children physically, mentally, emotionally, and intellectually to face various challenges and enjoy their journey through life. We strive to remove all the physical, mental, emotional, and social barriers to facilitate, welcome, accept, and include children of all abilities and disabilities. Here Children feel safe and are free and judgement-free to reach out to counsellors at any point of distress. Our team of well-qualified counsellors conducts regular life skills sessions to enhance empathy, resilience, and healthy interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. Students also understand the importance of healthy expressions of emotions and develop self-esteem. Our chosen student council members and peer educators conduct various activities to build a non-judgmental and safe environment. Our barrier-free environment complements children’s needs, and to facilitate this, we have a well-planned infrastructure that comprises of:

-Lifts and elevators with mirrors, lights, and alarms
-Barrier-free corridors and lobbies to ensure free movements
-Railings
-Washrooms with wheelchair access on every floor
-Relevant sign boards
-Crutches
-Wheel-Chairs, etc.

At DPS Mysore, our special educators build IEP’s for all the children with special needs to ensure a robust teaching and learning practice. We help the CWsN claim suitable exemptions, curriculum flexibility, accommodations, adaptations, and modifications if necessary. The special educators plan and provide flexible approaches that can be customised and adjusted for individual needs. Since we have a web of networks with organisations that are effective referral systems, the process of assessment, diagnosis, and intervention is much easier and quicker. Therefore, based on the recommendations of these organisations, reading help, scribes, extra time, exemptions, and alternative seating have also been arranged for children with learning difficulties and other disabilities during exams and class assessments. There are planned remediation and enrichment classes happening at DPSM to bridge the possible learning gaps and cater to first-generation learners. We conduct regular sensitization programmes for our teachers, non-teaching staff, support staff, and bus attendants to ensure smooth functioning. We also conduct regular PTMs and orientation programmes for parents. Our students at DPSM are sensitive towards their peers with special needs. Our peer council members come up with suitable activities to create awareness about CWsN at the student level. And advocate inclusion from the grass-roots level at DPSM. All the above factors make DPSM a unique and special-needs friendly annex, actualizing the vision of DPSM to promote and sustain inclusion.
