GLIMPSES OF ENRICHMENT SESSIONS
Delhi Public School Mysore firmly believes in providing a conducive and happy environment to all students. With this viewpoint a workshop on “HAPPY CLASSROOM” in association
with CBSE, CoE, Bangalore was hosted by DPSM on 13th August 2022.
The resource person was Mrs. Vamshreepriya Amar, Principal MVJ International School Bangalore. Several teachers from other schools in Mysore also participated in the workshop. The speaker, Mrs. Vamshreepriya through an array of individual as well as group activities discussed strategies and methodologies to create ‘Happy Teachers’ who in turn would create ‘Happy Classrooms.’ She highlighted on the pursuit of exploring joys in little things and choosing to be happy. The session also gave an insight into reasons for unrest among students and adopting ways as a teacher, to react to such situations. She suggested innovative ways of story-telling, role play, use of graphic organizers, etc. to invite student’s participation in the lessons. She emphasized on celebrating the efforts of the students and deriving meditation exercises for enhancing the learning process in the classrooms.
The workshop was indeed an inspiring reminder for all the educators to enthusiastically strive to create a happy classroom and make learning a stress free and fun-filled experience for the students and teachers.
To calculate the interest of upcoming generation towards humanities and its field of study the new generation educators need to be educated about modern teaching methodologies and interactive pedagogies according to NEP 2020. To address this crucial issue, a one-day workshop on “Capacity Building Programme” for Social Studies was conducted at Delhi Public School Mysore led by Mysore Sahodaya School Complex on 20th of December for Social Science Middle & High School Teachers in and around Mysore.
The Session was led by eminent resource person Dr. Sarada Chandrasekaran (Academic Director and Head of Institution). The meaning of classroom management was discussed. The session mainly focused on the three components of Effective Classroom Management: Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor.
The following were the objectives of the workshop:
-Empowering SSC in usage of Multiple TLPs to developing competencies.
-Creating lesson plans using new TLPs.
-Using Assessments as learning tools.
-Gaining an understanding of the teaching and learning processes (including coaching and counselling); their dynamics; felt-needs; unmet gaps and emerging expectations of stakeholders;
-Imbibe skills in using tools and techniques in the classroom for effective knowledge-delivery;
-Acquiring an attitude of openness towards continuous improvement, and willingness to adopt modern and improved academic practices.
-Discussion of content management.
Interactive activities were conducted in between the discussions making the session lively and effective. Just as good management enhances learning by creating a conducive environment for teaching, similarly effective instruction contributes to a well-managed class. Proper instructions help in preventing failures, boredom and confusion in the classroom. Educators must select and plan activities that result in a high level of student learning and involvement. It was a fun-filled and enriching session, full of hands’-on activities for the educators to indulge in and learn from it.
Education is a never-ending process; it doesn’t stop after starting a career. Like a good student keeps on learning within the framework of information, teaching is an evolving skill because a good teacher needs to keep on upskilling herself to be relevant in the class.
At DPSM, teaching and learning go hand in hand which is why it is important for us to invest in the professional development of teachers. With this in mind a two-day workshop was conducted by CBSE, COE Bangalore at Delhi Public School-Mysore, facilitated by the Director – Principal Ms. Manju Sharma.
The two-day session threw light on Experiential Learning, and active participation of students in the classroom incorporating KOLB’s cycle and Multiple Intelligence theory. Resource persons Mr. Rennie Joseph Mendonce, Principal – Police Public School & Ms. Smitha Kurup, Principal – JSS Public School, conducted a hands on, as well as minds on programme for teachers from different CBSE schools around Mysore. “In simplest form, Experiential Learning means learning from experience or learning by doing”. Some of the takeaways were: difference between learning objectives and learning outcomes, lesson plans with SMART learning outcomes, using Kolb’s learning model, using participatory teaching methods, implementation of L.A.A.R checklist for viable learning outcome. While working in multidisciplinary links it is important to identify the larger learning objectives using Bloom’s guideline verbs to frame the objectives. It was an enlightening and interactive two-day session for the teachers wherein, they actively participated by sharing their experiences and showed commendable team spirit in planning out the activities.
Delhi Public School, Mysore hosted ‘Prospective Resource Persons’ training on Maths-X under the aegis of CBSE Centre of Excellence Bangalore. The Principals, Vice-Principals and Senior Teachers of Mathematics from various schools across Karnataka attended the 2-day session. The participants were 21 in number. The training programme focussed on salient aspects of teaching pedagogy on Mathematics to develop student centric learning atmosphere. The programme aimed on empowering and enabling the Mathematics teaching fraternity for the role of resource persons.
On Day-1, the session began with brain storming on why students face problems in learning Mathematics, discussion and listing of common errors in Mathematics which are categorised as conceptual error and procedural errors. Also, there was a session on the use of GeoGebra and Geo Sketch pad. Planning of lesson according to different levels of cognitive learning according to Bloom’s Taxonomy was discussed in detail and the attendees were given the task
of lesson plan on the topic assigned to them. They were to present the lesson plan the next day. The session was interspersed with many fun-filled energisers to freshen up the participants and to boost their enthusiasm.
The Day-2 session started with the lesson plan presentation by each group. Also, the debate and panel discussion topics were discussed.
The importance of awareness of multiple intelligence was highlighted by the resource persons. Various activities which can take care of the learning needs to students with different types of intelligence were elaborated well. Many strategies which could take care of stress among the students due to Board examination, student portfolio, the dos and don’ts before and during the examination were very well highlighted during the session. KWL charts, what…when…where, even better if …, simple math games, etc. were taken up in between to ease up the session. The ideas about the internal assessment of Grade X were shared by the very knowledgeable resource persons and were of great help.
We, at DPS, Mysore, are thankful to CoE Bangalore, CBSE for giving us an opportunity to host the session.
ENRICHMENT SESSIONS
With Gen-X being ten times ahead of its previous generation, feeding it merely with factual knowledge is just not enough. Educators need to get a grip of their classroom in such a manner that the learners feel valued and are an integral part of the teaching- learning process.
A two-day workshop on Capacity Building Program on Classroom Management, was conducted by CBSE, Centre of Excellence, Bangalore on 19th and 20th of October at Delhi
Public School, Mysore for Principals of CBSE Schools in and around Karnataka and Chennai. The Sessions were led by eminent resource persons Dr. Manilla Carvalho, Principal, Delhi Public School, Bangalore – East and Dr. Reshma Ganesh, Principal, Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir, Bangalore – East. The sessions mainly focused on the three components of Effective Classroom Management:
Content Management, Conduct Management and Covenant Management.
The effectiveness of the various types of Classroom Management, as part of Content Management was discussed in detail on the first day. On the following day, the topics, Conduct Management and Covenant Management were taken up. The session started with an explanation on the difference between rules, procedures and routines.
Management of interpersonal relationship with parents were also explained. Ways of communicating effectively, ways of establishing contacts and ways of dealing with parents’ criticism and confrontation were discussed through interactive activities. It was a fun-filled, educative and enriching session, teamed with hands’-on and interactive activities for the educators to indulge in and learn from.

The emphasis on STEAM, the educational discipline that engages students in the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math, has grown as the education community explores strategies to provide students with the skills and knowledge they will need to be successful innovators in the 21st century.
Ms. Ameera Subohi, the Senior Mistress of Grades 3 to 5, who attended a workshop at DPS Society, HRDC, New Delhi, conducted a Math and Science workshop for primary grade teachers at DPS Mysore on July 1st, 2023, to share her learning. The workshop aimed to increase participants’ hands-on learning, inspire scientific curiosity, and encourage collaboration and knowledge exchange. The workshop was enjoyable and began with an ice-breaking exercise. The activities that followed included a food web analysis, paper chromatography, tangrams, T-puzzles, various cap-making activities using newspapers, and other hands-on experiments.
Overall, the session was engaging, informative, and highly interesting. It was well-received by the teachers and sparked greater interest in Math and Science activities.

Autism Spectrum disorder is a neurological disorder impacting individuals and is characterized by impaired socio- emotional behaviours, communicative difficulties, linguistic difficulties, sensory issues, repetitive behaviour and difficulty with change.
As 2nd April each year is celebrated as ‘International Autism Day’ and the entire month of April is dedicated to bring about awareness about this disorder and the need to be empathetic towards people with Autism, a programme was conducted by the Psychology department of DPSM for students of grade 9 to 12 and teachers alike.
The programme was chaired by the Director Principal of DPSM, Mrs Manju Sharma and was accompanied by the Senior Mistresses and teachers of the school.
The grade 12th Psychology students explained the significance of the early identification, symptoms and management techniques for people afflicted with ASD through a PowerPoint presentation. Short videos and movies were showcased to create more awareness and explain the condition of Autism and its management.
The session was made interactive and lively with a quiz on ASD and poster /slogan writing competition for all students and teachers also.
Real life cases from the school itself were presented by the class teachers of grade 1 and 2 and the progress shown by the children with ASD at DPSM was applauded as a result of team work and dedication of teachers and parents alike.
The programme provided an insight into the world of ASD and assisted children to be more empathetic and understanding towards people with varied abilities and disorders.
A workshop was conducted by the Counselor, Ms. Namrata Chaturvedi, and the Special Educator, Ms. Bhavana Srikant, at DPS Mysore on June 4, 2022, at the Multipurpose Hall to familiarize the teachers with the concept of Inclusion, its need in the present era, and the ways by which teachers can identify children with special needs in their classrooms and the intervention methods. It was attended by all the present teachers and Senior Mistresses of the school.
The session was divided into two parts, one for the primary wing teachers followed by the secondary and higher-grade teachers. The teachers were familiarized with the concept of Inclusion, its history, and the progress of the concept in various countries, mainly the US, and where India stands in that regard.
Signs and symptoms were discussed with the teachers to enable them to first identify and then guide and help these children. Improvements and modifications in classroom management were discussed to improve the academic and general performance of such children. Sensitive issues like labeling and stigmatizing CWSN were discussed, and the more humane and approved ways of addressing such children were communicated.
The session continued further by enumerating the checklists to identify CWSN.
The session ended with a question-and-answer session wherein many of the doubts and queries of teachers were satisfied and addressed.
The session also acted as a team-building platform where teachers could share their thoughts, had a lighthearted game session, gained more insight and confidence in handling CWSN, and became more positive and empathetic.
A workshop on Emotional Intelligence and the healthy management of emotions was conducted by Ms. Namrata Chaturvedi and Ms. Bhavana Srikanth on March 14, 2023. It was a 2-hour session attended by teachers from kindergarten to grade 8.
The workshop began with the teachers filling out a questionnaire to evaluate their emotional intelligence scores. It was followed by a small activity that involved movement, music, and dance, which the participants thoroughly enjoyed.
The objective of the workshop was to introduce the theory of emotional intelligence and the benefits of being emotionally intelligent. It aimed to help the teachers understand that learning is not only an intellectual process but also an emotional one. Students can have a better scope of comprehension if they are emotionally stable. The facilitators also discussed the importance of self-awareness, self-control, and the management of emotions. There were a couple of hands-on and minds-on activities conducted with the help of a few volunteers to understand the importance of healthy expression of emotions. At the end, teachers had a circle time where they shared their experiences in expressing emotions.

BACKGROUND:
It is a well-established fact that habits and behaviors adopted during adolescence determine health in adulthood. Schools emerge as an ideal platform to reach out to children to shape their life-defining habits. Thus, under Ayushman Bharat, the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have jointly drafted the School Health Program (SHP) to foster the growth, development, and educational achievement of school-going children by promoting their health and well-being.
VISION OF THE WORKSHOP:
The school health program envisions equipping, motivating, and supporting children to actively contribute toward the development of self and society.
OBJECTIVE:
To increase knowledge, inculcate a positive attitude, and enhance life skills to promote responsible and healthy behavior among school-going children.
The following are a few takeaways:
– Uphold that children are a positive resource and are trusted, appreciated, and respected.
– Recognize that children are heterogeneous, with diversity in terms of urban, rural, caste, class, religion, region, language, cultural beliefs, disability, gender, marital status, working status, and so on.
– Create an open, non-threatening, and nurturing environment to facilitate joyful learning.
– Enable learners to understand, adapt, and negotiate existing and constantly changing realities.
– Contribute to enhancing the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of learners using a strength-based approach rather than a deficit perspective.
– Train the ‘Health Ambassadors’ to conduct age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, activity-based sessions to promote joyful learning.

Subject: The DPS-HRDC Offline Training.
A training session on the subject “PROGRAMME IN ASSESSMENT” was organized by Delhi Public School Society, Human Resource Development Centre for the faculty of Delhi Public Schools.
The resource person defined formative assessment as ‘Practice in the classroom is formative to the extent that evidence about student achievement is elicited, interpreted, and used by teachers, learners, or their peers to make decisions about the next steps in their instructions that are likely to be better or better founded than the decisions they would have taken in the absence of the evidence that was elicited. While explaining the reasons, the resource person also spoke on how the learning standards can be raised through classroom assessments via the Black Box Theory given by Paul Black and Dylan William. She concluded the session by stating that understanding formative assessment conceptually is at the core of its implementation.

An interactive workshop was conducted at Delhi Public school Mysore on 21st February 2023 at the Multipurpose Hall by the School Counsellors and Special Educators of the school Ms. Namrata Chaturvedi and Ms Bhavana Srikanth on the topic “Revisiting School Discipline”.
The workshop focused on understanding the meaning, types, goals, protocols and causative factors of the various forms of indiscipline at school and classroom levels and ways and means to first prevent, take action and resolve the issues for future.
The session included interactive brainstorming on the various issues of school discipline, their causative factors, and preventive and corrective techniques. The importance of being sensitive and positive encouragement was highlighted. To involve the participants, a brainteasing game, a small enactment, and role play was resorted to.
The session was well appreciated by all the teachers, and they could carry lot of learning and newer perspectives.
Today, a briefing about NIOS was conducted for our support staff. They were all very enthusiastic to learn about this facility, and many expressed their interest in it. We appreciate Manju Ma’am for providing us with this opportunity. Your support is highly valued.

Worksheets are a modern approach to facilitate creative and engaging learning experiences for children. They serve as valuable tools to assess students’ learning outcomes, identify their weaknesses, and clarify challenging concepts.
Ms. Nanditha Philip, the Senior Mistress of the Foundational Stage at Delhi Public School Mysore, conducted an in-house workshop on creating and designing effective worksheets. The workshop emphasized how worksheets can promote active learning in students.
The importance of using worksheets in teaching and learning includes:
1. Facilitating subtle learning.
2. Building logical thinking skills.
3. Covering a wide range of topics.
4. Exploring complex concepts.
5. Reinforcing learned concepts through repetition, leading to better comprehension.
Overall, the workshop provided valuable insights and learning opportunities for the teachers.
A workshop was conducted by the counsellors, Ms.Bhavana Srikanth and Ms. Namrata Chaturvedi, at DPS Mysore on 10th march 2023 at the Multipurpose Hall to familiarise the teachers with Multiple Intelligences, its uses in the classroom setup and the significant positive impact that it can have on the learning graphs of the students.
The Director -Principal Mrs. Manju Sharma, Senior mistresses Mrs. Meena Rai, Mrs.Reshma Khuraishi, Mrs. Ameera Subohi and Mrs. Nandita Philip Were present along with other 58 teachers from all the 4 segments.
The workshop initially introduced the concept of “Multiple Intelligences” as given by Dr Howard Earl Gardener. It talks about the different types of intelligences which can be found in the children and adults alike. They can be identified as eight types (plus one) of Intelligences .
The teachers were helped to understand the different types of Intelligences like Verbal, Spatial, Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Kinaesthetic, Visual, Naturalistic and existential Intelligences for themselves using an inventory and also how to identify these amongst the students.
Teachers were divided into groups based on the subjects and asked to come up with lesson plans with a minimum of 6 intelligences. The activity was both hands on and minds on.
Teachers came up and discussed their plans in groups. The teachers also identified their own Multiple intelligences with the help of a questionnaire. They grew their interpersonal skills by involving in the team building activity.
Teachers also tapped their feet for a small dance number to understand the relation musical and kinaesthetic intelligence while dancing. They also did various other activities to understand various intelligence.

He noted that the integration allows real-time updates.He urged teachers to explore the features and benefits, students to actively engage with the platform, and parents to utilise the available resources to support their child’s learning journey.
